ALL-SEASON, ALL YOU SHOULD KNOW

 

You have summer tyres, winter tyres and all-season tyres. Summer tyres offer the best grip on dry and wet asphalt in hot weather. Winter tyres do this at temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius and in snow and ice. All-season tyres provide grip in a wide variety of weather conditions. Vredestein has been supplying them since 1993!

 

WHAT ARE ALL-SEASON TYRES?

All-season tyres have both winter and summer characteristics. The inside of the tread has a winter profile, the outside has a summer profile (see illustration). In a bend the car will lean to the outside and lean more on the outside of the tyre.” In the summer a turn will usually be taken faster, and the lean will increase more. The car then “leans” more on the summer part of the tyre and therefore has more grip. In winter, corners will be taken at less speed and the car will lean less, so that the winter part, the inside, will give more grip. All-season tyres are ideal for temperate climates with changeable weather. The rubber is more resistant to different temperatures. So, it always offers grip and safety.

 

HOW DO I RECOGNISE ALL-SEASON TYRES?

All-season tyres can be recognized in various ways. On the side of the Vredestein Quatrac 5 and Quatrac Pro are the letters M + S and the snowflake symbol or 3PMSF symbol – a stylized mountain and snowflake. You will also see four symbols of all-season tyres. These are images of a sun, a cloud with raindrops, a snowflake and a four-leaf clover consisting of four hearts. The connoisseur can see it further on the tread. The winter section is on the inside and the summer section is on the outside of the tread.

 
 

 

HOW LONG DO ALL-SEASON TYRES LAST?

The degree of tyre wear strongly depends on the weight of the car, the engine power, and the driving style, even with all-season tyres. Wear due to temperature differences will play less of a role with all-season tyres due to the use of special rubber and material types. All-season tyres wear out less quickly than winter tyres especially when temperatures often fluctuate greatly in spring and autumn. At an asphalt temperature above 7 degrees Celsius, the wear of winter tyres increases. The rubber of the all-season tyres is more resistant to higher temperatures, but still offers good grip when it hits the ground until frost in the spring and autumn nights.

 

HOW MUCH DO ALL-SEASON TYRES COST?

All-season tyres are slightly more expensive than summer tyres and cheaper than winter tyres. The big advantage lies in not having to change from summer to winter tyres and the storage of the tyres. Plus, you only need one set of tyres for the whole year, instead of two.

 

WHAT IS THE BEST ALL-SEASON TYRE?

26 years of experience with all-season tyres pays off for Vredestein. Vredestein carries out a lot of research and has been named 'Best all-season manufacturer' of 2019! It is a forerunner in the field of research and innovation. The new Quatrac Pro all-season tyre has won impressive prizes in Germany and America. In a test of 31 tyres by the German Auto Bild, the Vredestein Quatrac Pro came in second. The tyre also came out on top in the Tyre Rack test in the United States.

 

ALL-SEASON TYRE TEST

Auto Bild subjected all 31 tyres to a brake test. The ten best all-season tyres then underwent several tests to assess grip in all conditions. Performance is also linked to pricing. The Quatrac Pro finished first or second in the stages and that was good for second place overall. The jury reports that the Vredestein all-season tyre also performs remarkably well on dry asphalt. It scored almost as well as a summer tyre.
